Finishing Snowboard Forms!

Hey guys,
we are almost ready to start building the actual snowboards! All we need to do is get the forms totally glued together and screw the aluminum on, and after that we are good to go!
We will be meeting in the plastics lab tomorrow Thursday 3-18, at 4 pm to get these things finished. If you think you are going to want to build a snowboard for yourself please come to this meeting. Also, if you have any questions please email me back.

Hands On Help With Pace Project

Apparently the PACE team is scrambling on the pace project to finish a wing box assembly for the mfg challenge competition (we leave on mar 29). If there are any SAMPE members that can help out the would love the help. Here is the schedule. They can call Courtney Robinson, who is project lead, if they have questions (435-881-4707). Great chance for some hands-on experience in composites.

Wednesday March 18th

* 9:00 am - 1:00 pm (Prep and bonding of upper wing)
* 8:00 - 10:00 am (slight finishing of the lower wing to prep for
surfacing / patching)
* 12:00 - 5:00 pm (Prepreg cutout per ply orientation and wing
finishing)

Thursday March 19th

* 12:00 - 5:00 pm (layup and vacuum bag middle wing)

Friday March 20th

* 8:00 am - 12:00 pm (drilling holes in endplates, finishing edges)
* 3:00 - 5:00 pm (trimming and finishing of molded middle wing)

Monday March 23rd

* 8:00 - 11:00 am (TBD)
* 3:00 - 5:00 pm (cutout of prepreg for upper wing)

Tuesday March 24th

* 1:00 - 5:00 pm (Layup and bagging of upper wing)

Wednesday March 25th

* 3:00 - 5:00 pm (Trimming and finishing of molded upper wing)

January SAMPE meeting

There will be a meeting with the BYU SAMPE Chapter Thursday January 29 in the Clyde Building, Room 406 @ 6:00PM. We're getting a 6 ft. Subway sub and beverages are available to all who come.
In the meeting we will discuss the Snowboard project and the progress on it. We will also ask for feedback on the project and how it can be improved. The skateboard project is on hold as of right now and will be pursued at a later date. We will also be discussing the SAMPE composite wing and bridge building competition.
We invite anyone to come and see what SAMPE is all about!!!

Monthly BYU SAMPE Chapter Meeting

Next week, on Thursday November 13, our next BYU SAMPE chapter meeting will be held in room 406 of the Clyde Building. We will be reporting on the projects thus far and discussing issues and schedules for the following month. There will be pop and pizza again for everyone who attends so come and have a great time! Snowboard Project Meeting Changed

I forgot I was going to be out of town when I scheduled the meeting for Thursday, October 23. The meeting is rescheduled for Wednesday, October 29 at 5:30pm in room 115 of the Snell Building. You can email me at dave.hoagland@gmail.com with questions. Here are answers to the top 2 questions:

1. What should I have done for next meeting?
2. What is the time frame for making the snowboard?

The answer is the same for both questions. It is totally up to your group how fast you want to complete the snowboard (pending availability of materials).

LONG BOARD PROJECT MEETING CHANGE

The long board project meeting date has been changed due the the BYU football game this next Thursday. We didn't want to make you BYU football fans have to pick favorites. We just moved it up two days.

Both of these projects will be a learning process. We are going to start from design and work all the way through the production process. Come prepared with ideas and questions. Please make sure that you have joined SAMPE before coming to the project meeting. Take your membership application to Dr. Fullwood in the ME office, on the 4th floor of the Crabtree Building.
